Communication and language underpins everything we do in the Nursery. The staff spend the whole session alongside the children, modelling language and extending their vocabulary.

The children are learning new words daily and are constantly extending their understanding of spoken language. Children who have not spoken English before benefit from the daily exposure to conversational English through play based learning. They are supported in developing an understanding of the spoken language through consistent modelling by staff, playing alongside their peers and listening to conversations in parallel play. Staff use play based learning opportunities to narrate play to ensure children hear key vocabulary, spoken in English, in the correct context.

Children learn how to listen, respond and engage in conversation with one another.

Each week we have a Show and Tell session where children take turns to bring a favourite object to Nursery and talk about it to their friends, answering any questions raised.
