At Sacred Heart, we work to fulfil the vision that each pupil will:
In order to achieve this, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and teach the National Curriculum. This is to ensure children have the knowledge and skills needed year-on-year to ensure good progress throughout their primary school education. We have designed our curriculum with additional experiences and enrichment activities to help children learn more and remember more.
RE is a core subject at Sacred Heart and is based on the Curriculum Directory (guidance from the Bishops of England and Wales) detailing what should be taught in each phase throughout the school. RE permeates all aspects of school life. Within RE we teach the children about all the major world religions and are always mindful that we have children of other faiths and no faith at school.
In addition to the Early Years Foundation Stage, National Curriculum and RE Curriculum, we overlay an additional focus on the Personal, Social and Emotional development of the individual. As a result, we adopt a relational approach to learning, which brings together the following inter-related curriculums and values:
We have a ThriveR accreditation and we are an ‘Attachment Aware’ school.
As a school, we believe the combination of the academic, relational curriculums and values-based approach, offer our pupils the best provision, enabling them to reach their full potential academically, personally, socially, emotionally and spiritually - ready for the next phase of their education and to achieve our mission to
Every year, we wave goodbye to our World War 2 evacuees (Year 6 pupils) as they are evacuated to the Lincolnsfield Centre in Bushey, near Watford.
During the evacuation visit, the pupils are immersed in life as it would have been between 1939 - 1945.
They get to experience: life as a child at that time - the sleeping facilities, the chamber pot, the chores, the rationing, 'Digging for Victory', riding on Dodge Weapons Carrier, the 'Blitz', finding safety in Morrison and Anderson Shelters, codebreaking, the land army, handling military artefacts and memorabilia, schooling, forming a chain gang to put out a fire and, much, much more...
Macbeth is a tragic play about a play upon a brave warrior called Macbeth. As Year 6, we completed a workshop based on the play and then performed the play after just two days of studying. It was an amazing experience which helped build up our confidence. We were proud of all we achieved and some of us even unlocked some hidden acting abilities. We performed in for of our parents and cannot wait to complete more work on Macbeth in class.
What a fantastic experience for Year 6!
